believe their ass the first time!

dear dope chick:

the ego always wants to be right, even when it’s about someone else’s situation.

ego wants you to make the assumptions.

it wants you to campaign against the obvious.

ego tricks you into believing life would work out best for you when everyone behaves how you want them to behave…

but that’s not reality.

it’s not our job to change others into who we want them to be,

especially after they’ve already stated + shown us who they are + how they are programmed to behave.

it is, however, our job to believe them the first time.

not after the 3rd, 4th or 567th time — the *first *time.

it’s our job to set boundaries on what we will + will not allow in our space.

it’s our job to decide whether or not to engage with folks.

it’s our job to allow people to be who they are going to be.

#deardopechick:

when someone tells you who they, believe their ass the first time! no use wanting, wishing, or pleading for them to change — that’s a decision for them to make for themselves. you know what you can do, though? engage with them as they are or leave them alone. dassit

be you, be dope!
