dear dope chick,

welcome + welcome back!

how you feelin’ today?

how you livin’ today?

are you ready, today, to take some action?

what you’ll need:

for those who are new here, who haven’t been here in quite a while, or have been rockin’ with me since day one —

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every single episode you are challenged to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

that means you’re taking one step today — big, small, doesn’t matter — that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.

what that one step can do for your life:

maybe that step will inspire other steps to come.

maybe that step is the only step you take today.

but regardless of how many steps you take after today, acknowledge that that one step you take today can be the catalyst to changing your life.

it’s not taking the steps that’s hard.

you’ve taken steps before without much thought or resistence.

what makes this challenging is that you’re thinking about how impactful this step can be in your life.

don’t overthink it, fam.

as unsure as you may be about how all this will pan out, there is a part of you that knows + understands that anything is possible

there’s an innate feeling that you feel that’s saying to you right now, “I know this is possible”

but there is also a cloud of doubt that is with you that says, “well, what if this happens”?

i’m not here to force you to do anything you don’t want to do because let’s face it — you have options, you have choices.

rather, I am here to encourage you to move in the direction of your dreams.

you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that for yourself today one step at a time.

let’s get to work!

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard our previous episodes?

not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?

we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

this is a reflective podcast episode.

maybe at the end of this episode you will reflect on how impactful taking steps can be for you today or how impactful this conversation is on your life.

so grab your journal + something to write with so that you can write out exactly how you’re feeling about + what’s to come from this journey.

your feelings may change, they may stay the same, but documenting that can help you see what is shifting in your life.

to do this week:

today’s action is to find peace with not knowing exactly how everything will play out in your life.

there were times when some of us have questioned + wondered where our next meal was coming from.

yet, here we are today with enough food, maybe even living in abundance with a fully belly, a little bit of food in the fridge, +/or groceries to get by.

we have enough of what we need in this moment.

there were times when some of us didn’t have a dollar to our names. we were out here surviving on dimes + vibes.

maybe not living in excess, but still abundantly blessed.

yet, here we are today with enough money to make ends meet, accounts in the positive, maybe even a little nest egg saved for a later, +/or little to no debt.

one thing is for certain:

we’re good.

at least for this moment we are, anyway. we’ve got what we need.

some of the best days of my life

I can remember some of the best moments in my life where when I was a college student with barely anything to my name.

still, I was able to travel because somehow we always had gas in the car, I was able to party to my hearts content, I was able to host gatherings + feed people other than myself + they left the house full —

life didn’t stop because of uncertainty.

that whole four years of college was filled with uncertainty + yet I had the most robust life; I had the greatest time.

but isn’t that life, fam?

isn’t life unpredictable to an extent?

there are circumstances that are beyond our control, there are situations that arise that we have to be smart about (shout out to Usher), + there are plenty of times when the phrase “I didn’t see THAT coming” holds true value.

the question we have to ask ourselves is: will we get ourselves in a tizzy over the unknown?

will we allow it to effect our day to day dealings?

will we allow our need to know how every thing unfolds to cause us mental anguish?

will we continue to allow it to tear apart relationships or unwind our lives into the pits of despair, into helplessness + into anxiousness?

there is peace is acceptance.

accepting that no matter what happens, we are taken care of.

life has proven its ability to keep us all covered + cared for.

even when we’ve found ourselves in the depths of feels + in some of our darkest phases, overcoming these obstacles has happened for us.

we’re on the other side of some of those things we thought we could never get through.

that thing that we thought was gonna break us may have in fact broken us in the moment, yet here we are pieced back together again.

we’re on the other side now.

those memories may hurt + those incidents may have caused real damage, fam.

now it’s time to repair ourselves.

now it’s time to invite + embrace healing; to invite that healing spirit into our spaces.

over the course of the week, give yourself credit for what you do know.

as uncertain life can be, there are a few things that we do know for certain:

  1. we have every thing we need to in life to overcome any situation. no question.
  2. we are fully capable of getting our needs met.

this may have been questionable coming up as a child especially if your experience didn’t reflect one that embodied a lot of love, care, or attention, but as an adult we can give our inner child the best of our best.

we can give ourselves whatever we were unable to get in those moments.

those moments have passed so these moments now we can fill with what we need.

the time, the attention, the love, the patience, + the grace we may have lacked growing up is exactly what you can give to yourself today.

there is an abundance of that with you today.

you know that trouble don’t last always, that without the rain there isn’t sun + vice versa.

our lives, our circumstances, our experiences, are fully dependent arisings.

in short, every thing happens for a reason.

it’s not our job to know all of the reasons why something happened, it is our job to find peace with what has happened + to move forward in a direction that flows + aligns with the desires of our hearts; that aligns with who we are at our core.

additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!

for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.

continue reciting your affirmations this week.

check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

my final thoughts:

I believe in miracles.

I know they exist because my faith in them does.

isn’t that enough?

when you look at your life, notice that the mere existence of hardships, of feelings of failure + of constant struggle exist because you allow them to exist in your life.

it’s time we take accountability for our existence.

  • do we continue living a lifestyle of blame? shifting the blame from one situation to another person to another circumstance — do we continue to do that?
  • do we continue to walk this journey only hoping for a big break + not deciding to finally take accountability for creating the lifestyle we most desire?
  • do we continue to shift the blame on other people or do we finally take accountability for where we are in this moment? for our contributions to our own unhappiness?
  • do we keep shifting blame or do we get the nerve to say, “enough is enough. I’m tired of this shit. I want different for myself”?
  • do we continue to live in happenstance? do we sit here believe that everything that’s happened or is happening is by coincidence only + that we have absolutely no say in what we decide to do?

know that you have a choice.

know, today, if you didn’t know before — if you don’t know now you know — that you have a choice.

remember you were born with the ability to choose where you want to go, what you want to do right now, + how you want to do it.

  • you can 100% choose how you say something to someone.
  • you can 100% choose where you work.
  • you can 100% choose how often you’ll rest.
  • you can 100% choose whether or not you want to show up + maintain relationships with other people.
  • you can 100% choose what you want to believe right now about yourself, about your situation, + about life.
  • you can 100% choose peace in your life — no matter what’s going on in your life.

peace can find you in situation, you have to choose to see it, accept it, + rock with it.

the question you ask yourself today is:

what do I choose for myself in this moment?
