dear dope chick,

welcome + welcome back!

how you livin’ today?

how you feelin’ today?

are you ready, today, to take some action?

what you’ll need:

for those who are new here, who haven’t been here in quite a while, or have been rockin’ with me since day one (i see you, thank you for being here) —

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every single episode you are challenged to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

that means you’re taking one step today, however small, big, or however you wanna categorize it, that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.

taking a step: what does that look like for you today?

it can look like anything.

it can look like anything that’s intentional, that you’ve put some thought into, that you said:

“you know what? i’m doing this today because i know or would like to see where this will lead me.”

you’re doing it because it makes sense to you.

you’re doing it because you have thought about it + have resolved that this is what you want to do.

you’re owning it,  you’re taking accountability for it, you’re taking responsibility for it — that is what taking a step looks like.

now whether you decide to do that in all aspects of your life is also for you decide.

sometimes, we are unaware of things that we do + the impact we make on others with our choices because we lack intention, we lack awareness, + we lack alignment.

so, it’s your choice today to decide whether or not you’ll align with your values, to align with your morals, to align with anything that you belive to be true + to question those things, to call them to the table.

maybe say to yourself:

“i’m not sure about this. i’ve been doing this for umpteen years + i’m not sure that this is working out for me. let me try something different.”

that’s up to you.

you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that for yourself today one step at a time.

let’s get to work!

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard our previous episodes?

not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?

we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

to do this week:

today’s action is to stand on your decisions + to not be swayed by popularity.

everyone + they mama can be doing something + guess what?

it doesn’t mean that you have to do it, too, fam.

just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s for you.

popularity doesn’t automatically make something right or wrong.

I personally don’t believe in right or wrong, rather I believe things are based on the choices we make.

the meanings we assign to things are for us + our own moral compasses, but it doesn’t make something inherently right or wrong.

tar build up + endocrine disruptors

an example: tobacco based products were very popular at a point in time.

seemingly everyone was okay with huffin’ + puffin’ cigarettes or chewin’ + spittin’ tobacco!

fast forward to now, we are all well aware of the health consequences tobacco can bring into our lives + into the lives of others.

yet still, tobacco based products are still around — cigarettes are still sold in stores, vaping + hookah are the new wave, + people are still using/addicted to nicotine.

another example: there is a huge market for products that have a certain scent.

there are products on the market that make your home + your laundry smell like certain scents —

  • detergents that have a scent called fresh laundry
  • plug ins that use a scent branded as summer breeze
  • candles that when lit emit the smell of what some people may relate to as apple on the orchards or pumpkin spice
  • soaps that are perfumed to give off that “you’re clean” scent
  • perfumes that have us salivating at the mouth in lust for others because of how they interact with their pheromones

it’s very popular to walk outside + smell like “somethin'” or to have “smell goods” inside of your home.

most products marketed to us or that are widely used contain artificial fragrances, parabens, + phalates also known as endocrine disruptors.

endocrine disruptors, as with tobacco, can cause serious health complications yet unlike tobacco, is not a widely known health concern.

some of the health concerns endocrine disruptors can bring into our lives are:

  • cancers of all kinds
  • fertility issues
  • mood disorders
  • premature puberty
  • decreased immunity

yet, endocrine disruptors are so embedded in our daily lives + if not actively avoided, can be found in our day to day products:

  • toothpaste
  • lotion
  • makeup
  • candles
  • deoderant
  • laundry detergent
  • soaps
  • food
  • clothing
  • furniture

all of that to say this: what other people want for their lives is what they want for their lives.

some people are okay with being ignorant to fact that they are using products that cause such disharmony in their bodies and in their lives.

sometimes they just don’t know.

i don’t use the term ignorant in a degrading way.

I’m saying it as in we don’t know that the information is out there + we may not care enough to look or even know what to look for.

it’s important that if you want something in your life, if you want to find out what’s going on in your products or what you’re ingesting or consuming on a daily basis, that you do the bare minimum + read the ingredient label.

there are foods that you consume that you are not the best for you, yet you still will not read the ingredient label to see what is causing issues in your system or you have the mindset that you’ve been eating this all your life so you’re gonna continue eating it regardless of what it may or may not be doing to your body.

red, yellow, + blue dyes can be found in our foods + may be causing real health issues within our systems, but many of us don’t think to sit down + read up on what it is that we’re consuming.

we want to remain ignorant + justify our actions with “well, i’ve always eaten it!” or “i ain’t dead from it yet“…

again, how others want for their lives is what they want for their lives.

it doesn’t have to be what you want for your life, though.

it’s okay to stand ten toes down in how you decide to live your life, including what products you consume + what products you avoid.

over the course of the week, continue to question your current actions, your current routines, + your current responses.

not just to products or food, but to what you do in life.

your current family traditions may or may not align with your lifestyle.

the way your parents disciplined you may or may not be the way you desire to discipline your child(ren).

soul food may or may not be good to your soul.

spades at family gatherings may or may not be your family’s game of choice.

you have options.

there are ton of possibilities out there + different opportunities you have yet to explore.

from these options, there are choices that you must make for yourself.

some choices are lighthearted in nature, while others may have a serious bearing on your overall life + health.

yet + still, they are your choices to make.

this week, continue to explore your options.

question everything, your intent included:

  • why are you choosing the products that you’re choosing?
  • why are you disciplining your child(ren) that way?
  • why do you talk to yourself like that?
  • why do you believe there is a right or wrong way to do things?
  • why do you think that this method promotes cleanliness over the other one?
  • why is it that your family history has high blood pressure + high diabetes?
  • what can you do today to change the trajectory of your life? is that a step you are willing to take? why or why not?

why is the question because it can lead you to a deeper understanding of your true intent.

additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!

for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.

continue reciting your affirmations this week.

check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

my final thoughts:

i’m gonna ask a question that you’ve heard before:

if you see everyone jumping off a bridge, are you jumping, too? explain your answer.

grab your journal for this one, jot it down + fully answer the question.

there’s an answer + then there’s your answer.

remember, there is no right or wrong way to answer this + everything isn’t as black + white as it may seem.

so, write down your true thoughts, your true feelings, + what’s truly flowing from your heart at this time.

you don’t have to share this with anyone. this is for you.

trust yourself.

your spirit knows where it must go.

it knows what nourishes it.

it knows what feeds it so that it can continue to expand, to continue to grow, to continue to root.

it knows more than what you’re giving it credit for (you know more than what you’re giving yourself credit for).

it knows when something aligns with or is out of wack to you.

rock with that inner knowing, even when it’s not the most popular decision to make.

maybe others want to cancel someone + you don’t.

that is fine. that is you decision to make. it’s okay to stand on that.

again, everything is not as black + white as we’d like to make it seem.

you can have your opinions. you can have your own choices.

choosing to live your life on your own terms + making individual decisions that support the improvement of our lives as a collective is one way today you can to show up + show love.
