dear dope chick,
welcome + welcome back!

what you’ll need:
for those who are new here, who haven’t been here in quite a while, or have been rockin’ with me since day one —
dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every single episode you are challenged to take one small step that aligns with living life on your own terms.
that means you’re taking one step today that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.
when are you gonna take ownership?
it’s always funny looking back on how we take credit for our decision making skills.
we’re hype about telling people what we decided to do when we’re on the up + up, but when our decision put us in a bind or forces us to take a deeper look within?
now it’s our mama’s fault, our childhood trauma’s fault, the other person’s fault, + our circumstances fault — never ours, though.
own your shit.
why would i want to own something that makes me look bad, P?
because it doesn’t make you look bad. that’s all in your own mind.
it’s up to you to change your perception of how life works + how life is working for you.
the first step to living life on your own terms is to accept the role we play in our own lives.
also — also! you are right here, right now because of the choices you’ve made in the past.
those moments have lead you here + it’s up to you to take hold of the opportunity.
do you decide today that you take actions that reflects who you are deep down your core?
do you decide to stay on your current path + do nothing?
I highly encourage you to take action today; however, that decision isn’t up to me.
you have your own choices to make.
you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that for yourself today.
let’s get to work!

to do this week:
flex, flex, flex!
today’s action is to remain flexible but firm.
it does a tree no good to remain so rigid that it cannot sway with the wind.
imagine how many trees would fall taking on this practice!
trees use their roots to stay firmly planted into the ground while allowing their branches to sway which, even in the most brutal storms + heavy winds, encourages them to stay in tact as a whole.
be like a tree.
stay firmly rooted in your core beliefs + your core values while remaining flexible in your methods of achievement + in the way you experience life.
who are you, sis?
that’s going to be the resounding question for today.
who are you at your core?
what do you believe about yourself? what do you value?
you’re gonna have to dig deep with this one.
over the course of the week, recover your integrity while remaining open to possibilities life so fervently gifts you.
integrity keeps us firmly planted, rooted, + grounded in life.
what is integrity?
well, what is this integrity you speak of?
integrity looks like keeping it real with yourself, especially when it’s easier to lie to yourself or put the blame on others.
an example of this would be owning your shit like we discussed earlier in this episode. sometime or another it’s not anyone else’s bad or fault, it’s a decision you made + that’s that.
it’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s a decision.
when we start owning our decisions as simply choices without labeling them as good or bad, we can see it for what is; the true value of the option that we chose + decide whether we continue to go down that path or decide to do something different.
by not allowing ourselves to get caught up in the emotional labeling, we can see the decision for what it is + move forward on that path or pivoting.
integrity looks like acknowledging you’ve got some learning to do.
the truth is we haven’t figure out how to do everything + never will. however, we are capable of learning + that’s where we start — with acknowledgement.
integrity looks like taking your commitments seriously.
whether we’ve told ourselves to get serious about our health + to keep non-nutrient rich foods outside of our homes or have made a commitment to be active daily, there is no excuse that gets to trump that commitment.
integrity in action
in instances like this, I think about my parents + how, even through ailments or pains, they take time for their health.
maybe it’s not their daily walk session that they do, maybe today it looks like minimal movement with their legs + use their arms for exercise.
or maybe it resembles a good stretch session instead of climbing the nu-step.
but one thing about them is they are going to move their bodies one way or another.
that’s integrity.
integrity allows you to remain unwavering about you.
when you find yourself face to face with making decisions that interfere with the commitments you’ve made to yourself, instead of giving up or giving in completely, exercise that newly evoked flexibility.
so you may not get to work out today at your regularly scheduled time + you have to pivot, what’s keeping you from working out earlier or later?
maybe the duration of your workout shifts from one hour to 30 minutes today. cool.
you use that 30 minutes + make it the best 30 minutes of your life.
use what you have to get what you want!
this is what integrity + flexibility look like in action.
getting what your core wants without giving up your core values.
additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!
for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.
continue reciting your affirmations this week.
check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

my final thoughts:
bend, don’t break.
as easy as it sounds, bending is not easy to do.
bending requires some major strength.
how else do we stretch beyond what seems incapable while still maintaining our integrity?
the way to flexibility is through daily stretch sessions.
our brains are muscles, too, yanno?
so when it comes to problem solving, the options we practice seeing, the better off we are in making a well informed decision.
be open to the possibilities that await you.
life is beautiful + grants us opportunity after opportunity to stretch ourselves + strengthen our core values + beliefs.
the best way to get your way is to find a way that works for everyone.
that doesn’t mean we overextend ourselves to the point of not snapping back.
honoring our integrity won’t allow for that to happen.
what it means is that we are open to the possibilities. we are open to hearing other people out, we are open to dialogue, we are open to listening without pushing our agendas onto other.
we not agree with everything that’s been said; however, we can see the value in what others want for their lives while also seeing the value we want in our lives.
so, how do we come to a solution?
how do we come together + figure this out?
surely we can work together one way or another.
it’s not either this or that.
maybe it looks like this with a little bit of that, but we will figure out a way.
i’m spent.
it’s okay to acknowledge that you’ve given all that you can give in this moment.
give yourself space, time, + grace to build more resilience, recover from stretching out, + to be open to stretching more in the future.
this comes with time + consistency.
think about a stretch session + you have to stretch from one leg to another.
some people can stretch all the way to the floor while others have a hard time stretching + end up only going as far as their knee.
but one thing is for certain: the more you practice stretching, the more flexible you can become.
your muscles continue to build + stretch. the tear apart a little bit, but rebind themselves to keep the integrity of the muscle.
the integrity of your muscle hasn’t shifted because you don’t push yourself to the point of hurt or injury, you give just enough for a challenge + back off.
then you come back the next day + have a go again.
maybe you are stretching even the smallest amount more than you did the day before, it’s progress.
time + consistency.
you be knowin’!
the reality is you know what you want, now it’s time to go get it.
don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, fam.
maybe you don’t know exactly who you are or what you want right now.
now’s the time to start digging deep + to find that out.
integrity is the key that unlocks access to your flexibility.
you’ll never know how far willing to go until you figure who you are + what you want.
remain open, remain observant, + most importantly remain grounded.

i appreciate you taking the time to read + listen!
thank you for being here today.
thank you for showing up + listening.
thank you for giving yourself space to act; to process, to figure out what it is that you want in this life + to put it into action.
+ most importantly, i thank you for being you.
i’ll see you on the next episode. 👋🏾
be you, be dope!
