are you ready, today, to take action?

what you’ll need:

for those who are new here, who haven’t been here in quite a while, or have been rockin’ with me since day one —

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every single episode you are challenged to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

that means you’re taking one step today, however small, big, or however you wanna categorize or label it, that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.

the lifestyle you desire wants you, too.

if it didn’t, you’d never know it existed.

it came to you in a vision, maybe in the form of a dream.

you can see it clearly. you can feel it, taste it even, + it’s been on the top of your mind for some time now.

making the transition, however, is where you feel stuck.

unstick yourself today + take a step.

no one can make you do it.

this podcast won’t make you take a step, but imma for damn sure encourage you to do so.

you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that for yourself today.

let’s get to work!

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard our previous episodes?

not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?

we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

to do this week:

today’s action is to adjust your attitude.

attitudes are like outfits:

you get to choose what you’ll wear.

it’s not the circumstances that shape your attitude rather it’s your attitude that shapes your circumstances.

even when you wake up feeling a way (especially when you wake up feeling a way) you get to choose how you want to go about your day because yes — your attitude is revealed by your circumstances.

  • that whole “i woke up on the wrong side of the bed” act won’t cut it anymore.
  • what that person did or didn’t do to you to make you have an attitude with them + apparently all of creation today won’t cut it as an excuse anymore.
  • not having the resources at the moment to do what it is that you want to do, I understand the frustration. frustration isn’t a reason to snap at others.

today’s situations + experiences are showing you + the world exactly who you are.

you’re revealing to yourself + others exactly who you are at your core.

you say you’re one way, but are you practicing what you say?

what does your attitude say about who you are?

because:

  • your attitude determines how you show up today.
  • your attitude determines how you act + react today.
  • your attitude determines how patient you are today.
  • your attitude determines how gentle you are today.
  • your attitude determines how understanding you are today.
  • your attitude determines how loving you are today.

your attitude, fam, has the power to change the trajectory of your life!

determine who you want to show up as today.

this falls on you. own that.

snowy days are beautiful, too.

I listened to an audible yesterday + the speaker shared a story about snow.

it started snowing in her city + the first thing she thought of was closing down her business + having to reschedule everyone since it’s snowing. she thought of how much of a hassle it would be to do it, but figured it needed to be done to keep everyone safe.

at the same time she had these thoughts, she overheard a woman say, “look at the snow. isn’t it beautiful?

right then + there she realized her mindset was fixated on the negative + that comment, as innocent as it was, reminded her of the beauty in the moment.

instantly, she adjusted her attitude to one of gratitude for that moment because, i’d imagine, it was in that moment she learned the power of the being present.

be right here, right now

your attitude adjustment really is looking for one thing:

for you to be in the present moment.

your attitude is from the past + here because of your past dealings.

the way you are reacting right now or throughout your day is based on past actions.

whatever just happened is having your attitude wanting to play catch up.

you’re bent out of shape because of something that’s in the past.

presently, all is well.

you’re safe, you can make moves, you’ve got every opportunity waiting in front of you to take.

allow your attitude to be in the forefront of everything you do.

determine right now that no matter how this day goes, you will show up as who you say you are.

be proactive. be intentional.

no matter how much people press + push you, no matter what you face (expected or unexpected), you get to choose how you show up in those situations + circumstances.

over the course of the week, challenge yourself to consistently choose the higher path.

when you’re faced with a challenge, will you automatically start allowing your mind to ruminate on evasive thoughts or will you, like the lady seeing the beauty in the snow, see the beauty, the opportunity, + the possibility of the moment?

there’s so much happening here right now that this is where is where our focus can be.

this is the best place for our focus.

we can’t control what happened then, in the past.

i can understand frustration + anger + having those feelings, what do you want to feel now?

will you allow that to affect your attitude right now?

your attitude doesn’t have to reflect anger.

use that anger + put it toward forward progress + revolution.

anger can be transformed + used for your benefit.

you can affirm yourself in moments of anger:

though this happened to me in the past, I’m still walking into today with patience, with love, with care, with concern, + with understanding.

this isn’t an easy challenge, but they don’t call a challenge a challenge for nothing.

sometimes our egotistical desires want to make it known that we ain’t the ones or twos + messing with us is problematic to put it politely.

remind yourself, you have nothing to prove to anyone + that anyone includes yourself.

you don’t have anything to prove to yourself.

instead of proving yourself to yourself, simply do what you say you’re going to do.

honor yourself.

trust yourself.

believe in yourself.

choose for yourself, not this one time, but on multiple occasions.

be consistent with yourself + the way you approach situations.

this may include:

  • pausing before you speak or react/act
  • taking a deep breath — deep inhale + deep exhale before figuring out next steps
  • praying + asking God or your higher power for guidance before responding
  • taking a walk around the block before making a life altering decision
  • giving yourself grace when you hastily approach a situation

okay, so you lashed out + said some things that aren’t in alignment with who you are, nor is it kind or considerate.

  • issuing an apology when you lash out on others, regardless of if it’s in the moment or it happened minutes ago — acknowledge that action + your attitude + action adjustment.

hold yourself accountable for your attitude + adjust it when + where necessary.

additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!

for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.

continue reciting your affirmations this week.

check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

my final thoughts:

an inspiration to us all.

giving into someone else’s desires is a weakness.

i’ll say it again:

giving into someone else’s desires is a weakness.

there is zero strength in giving someone exactly what they want because they want it.

giving in, in this instance, is acting as a puppet; allowing them to pull your strings.

unless you decide you want to do that (acting on your own volition), remember you are not a puppet.

you are a spirit having a human experience.

you are consciousness personified.

you can be intentional + choose how you’d like to choose.

you see they are picking a fight with you,

you see they are attacking your character,

you see they have no little or regard for others,

so think before you engage.

sometimes we are tempted to return the energy to show someone how strong we are.

you’re wanting to prove how strong you are… don’t.

strength is found in acting + reacting as yourself.

strength is walking away.

strength is disengaging when you see things are going sideways.

strength is saying, “you got it”.

strength is saying, “I won’t accept what you’re giving to me. you can keep it.”

strength is saying, “no, thank you”.

strength is rejecting an opportunity because it doesn’t align with your journey, even when the payout — the money, the promotion, the recognition is too tempting to pass up.

it’s tempting to take those things because they may be what you wanted but it may come at a cost — your integrity. is it worth it?

strength is forging your own path + living on your own terms when others so desperately want you to follow their own path + do what they want you to do.

they’ve laid out your life already + all you have to do is walk the path they’ve created — you’re the puppet remember? 🤪

strength is found in support + in community. it’s found in places + spaces where we give space to others to be themselves freely + live unapologetically as we do.

that’s strength because we can show up as ourselves + hold space for others to do the same because we have a strong sense of self, so allowing others to be who they are won’t faze us.

who they are is beautiful because we’re beautiful. that’s strength.

if you are constantly blaming the world for your shortcomings, the lens in which you view the world can use some updating.

look inside.

the circumstances don’t + won’t ever matter.

nothing you see in life is ever fully within your control except for one thing + that’s yourself.

to be honest, a lot of us don’t have control over ourselves.

work on that first.

master who you are + decide, today, which attitude you’ll bring with you.

[/mepr-show]

i appreciate you taking the time to read + listen!

thank you for showing up today + for being present.

thank you for listening, implementing (if you so choose), thank you for being open to dialogue + discussion.

+ most importantly, i thank you for being you.

i’ll see you on the next episode. 👋🏾

be you, be dope!
