dear dope chick,

welcome + welcome back!

i see you + appreciate you coming back for more!

what you’ll need:

if you are new here, here’s the scoop —

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every episode you are challenged, encouraged, + inspired to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

what does that look like for you?

i don’t know, but you know the lifestyle you want to live + it’s all on you to decide on this day what action steps you are willing to take to make your vision your reality.

check out our first episode to help you envision the lifestyle you want to live: seeing is believing (episode 1)

living life on your own terms is attainable.

it’s not a farfetched idea that sounds good on paper, rather it is happening for you right now. it’s not going to happen, it is happening right now, in the present.

it is imperative that you continue to make decisions that align with the lifestyle you want to lead.

that’s why we’re here today — to take that one small step!

not feelin’ it? no problem.

to take action or not to take action today is your choice.

there will be no brut force on my part to twist your arm into action. not happening.

however, i am encouraging you to show up for yourself today!

let’s get to work!

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard our previous episodes?

not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?

we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

i’m going to be straight forward witcha…

today’s action steps aren’t complex or grandiose in nature.

it is very straight forward, simple, + essential to your overall well-being.

sit yo ass down.

today’s action is to sit yo ass down.

don’t tell you don’t have time to do it because yes, the hell you do.

you are not a robot.

you are not some machine that’s constantly on the go.

no one is going to control that on or off switch for you but you.

you have a choice —

so if you’re taking action with me, we are choosing to sit down + to do nothing today.

omg — did i just suggest not being in the mix all the time? did i just say sitcho ass down?

i did. i sure the hell did.

how can rest become + remain a priority in my life?

the biggest question is always “how” —

how can i rest more?

how can i make time for rest since I’m always so busy?

rest comes in a lot of different forms.

get creative! it doesn’t have to look a specific way for you.

here are some examples of rest:

  • physical rest
    • naps
    • bodywork (i.e. massages, manicures, pedicures, acupunture, chiropractic, etc.)
    • sitting
    • laying down
    • stretch breaks
    • exercising (i.e. walking meditation)
  • mental rest
    • setting a timer/boundary to stop working at a certain time
    • taking short breaks
    • daydreaming
    • staring
    • deep breathing
    • meditation
  • social rest
    • disconnecting from social media
    • having no plans/alone time
  • sensory rest
    • turning off the tv + other electronic devices
    • turning down bright lights

meditation is a great way to rest because not only does it encourage you to disconnect from outside sensory, but it also turns off the internal chatter —

that anxiety ridden chatter, that worrisome chatter, that constantly need to be doing something chatter can keep you up + on the go. meditation slows you down + brings you back to a mindful state of being.

unconventional ways to rest

resting is not always sitting down + being still (though this is what I am encouraging today).

doing activities for fun + volunteering are also forms of rest.

in these instances, you are doing something you enjoy because you want to do it (not for the sake of productivity or capitalism). you are doing meaningful + purposeful activities.

because you aren’t doing these things out of obligation, your mind + heart can rest in knowing that you are 1) giving back out of the goodness of your heart + 2) doing something that extends beyond you + is for the greater good of the collective (the world).

rest is not for productivity purposes.

reasons you don’t need to rest: productivity’s sake + for capitalism.

you need to rest because your body needs to rest.

rest enables your body to grow + function properly. it also encourages you to expand + grow in clarity, mindfulness, peace, love + joy. it’s hard to have any of that when you don’t give yourself the space, time, + rest to do it.

stillness requires you to be still

no movement.

no talking.

no dilly dallying.

no multitasking.

it’s you with you.

get to know yourself today.

one of the issues we have related to rest is that it forces us to be with ourselves.

we don’t appreciate our own company because we don’t know ourselves enough to sit in silence with ourselves, to love on ourselves, + to appreciate ourselves.

we do so much all the time + are constantly running away from who we are at our core.

befriend yourself, sis.

it’s time you sit with + get to know yourself on a more intimate level.

figure out to a way to enjoy yourself, take in the joys of the world + the love that surrounds you, allow peace to reside within you + do nothing today.

rest comfortably.

sometimes it can feel uncomfortable resting if you’ve never really done it before. you are working against a program that took years to perfect. your body wants to move + it craves movement because it’s used to it.

you gotta break the habit.

you are mindful.

you are intentional.

you love yourself.

you care about the world + because you care about the world, you know that the only way to show up as your best self today is by taking care of yourself.

you are the change you want to see. it all starts with you.

to do this week:

sit yo ass down.

today’s action is to sit yo ass down.

over the course of the week, implement some of the examples of rests we discussed in this episode.

get creative + figure out what best suits your lifestyle.

rest is not a “one + done” activity.

this is a way of life. so how do you want to live life?

living life on your own terms means you decide how you want to rest + you will figure out a way get to your desired outcome because you are:

creative

innovative

+ you take action.
