dear dope chick,
welcome + welcome back!
how you livin’ today?
how you feelin’ today?
are you ready, today, to take some action?
what you’ll need:
for those who are new here, who haven’t been here in quite a while, or who have been rockin’ with me since day one —
dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every single episode you are challenged to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.
that means you’re taking one step today, however small, large, or however you wanna categorize it, that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.
it can be tough.
choosing different for yourself may not be an easy choice to make.
when we’re used to doing things a certain way + seeing success with it, maybe not the success we’re looking for but success nonetheless, it can be a hard pass to attempt another way.
unfortunately, it’s a comfortable success to the point where changing fills you with fear.
you can be on the path of destruction, but you’re afraid to veer off from a familiar path.
in times like these, we must give ourselves time, space, + grace.
time to build momentum,
space to find our footing,
+ grace while we figure it out all.
because guess what? it’s still a choice for us to make + it may become an easier choice to make + accept when we don’t put so much pressure on ourselves to be a certain way.
you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that for yourself today by taking one step at a time.
let’s get to work!
so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.
have you heard our previous episodes?
not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?
we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.
you can listen to them here.
speaking of steps, let’s talk about today’s action step:
- this is a suggestion.
- this is encouragement.
- this is not a requirement.
i am putting this out here so that you can hear it + be inspired to do something that is pressing on your heart today.
to do this week:
today’s action is to slow all the way down + to take your time noticing.
when you opened your eyes this morning, can you recall the first thing you saw?
did you notice the sunlight peeking through your window shades?
did you notice how much looser your body feels after that morning stretch?
did you notice the subtle sounds your neck makes when it’s being stretched?
did you notice the first words you said out loud for the day? what were they?
did you notice the first words you said to your loved ones today? what were they?
have you encouraged yourself today, fam? have you encouraged someone else? if so, what did you say?
has gratitude left your lips today? if so, what did you say you are grateful for?
did you notice how different it feels to start your day with journaling? or how different it feels to start your day with meditation? or how different it feels to start your day with prayer? or how different it feels to start your day in silence?
did you notice the exact moment you reached for your phone or tv remote? what were you rushing to see?
did you notice the weather change?
did you notice the dew on the plants, the cool crisp air, + the kiss of cold on your nose?
did you notice how regulated your body feels after hugging someone?
did you notice how easily you let off that smile this morning? can you recall what prompted it?
did you notice how parched you were after sleeping for the night?
did you notice how refreshing that first droplet of water feels on your tongue?
today, slow all the way down + take your time noticing.
over the course of the week, notice the difference the act of noticing makes in your life.
notice the subtleties,
notice the nuances.
notice how automatic you move,
notice when you lead with intention.
noticing is the epitome of being present.
noticing forces you to honor where you are right now,
what you’re doing right now,
why you’re doing it right now,
who you’re doing it for right now,
how you’re doing it + how you feel about what you’re doing right now.
are you enjoying the moment?
noticing encourages your presence + lives for your undivided attention.
it’s a nonjudgemental way to connect deeper with yourself, with the world around you, + with your why.
it gives you permission to explore without reservation.
it cultivates an attitude of gratitude for the simple pleasures in life.
slowing down is a decision makers dream as it lends itself as the biggest assist in making more effective choices in your life.
why?
because when you slow down + notice, you are more open to hearing your inner voice, feeling the sensations in your gut, + following your intuition.
my final thoughts:
write it out.
at today’s end before you retire for the night, i encourage you to pick up a writing utensil + your journal for this podcast to write down your thoughts on the following question:
what did you notice about today that’s made it different than any other day you’ve experienced?
if you weren’t paying attention yesterday to even compare, say that.
share the smallest nuance — unlike yesterday, today I took a breath before biting back or today, i chose to wear my hair out because it makes me feel confident + then talk about your experience.
in a world full of go-go-go, slowing down + taking notice is a courageous act.
it’s an act that can essentially change your life + help you clearly navigate the path of living life on your own terms.
savor the moments of today.
notice how beautiful + spectacular life is on the lowliest levels.
blow your own mind by uncovering how taking a full, deep breath can reset your nervous system or how fulfilling it can be to sit in silence.
in all that you do today, do something that means something to you.
gone are the days where we pride ourselves on being a busy body.
now’s the time to notice how effective it is to slow down + to pause, even when it’s for a moment in time.
+ if you notice you ain’t vibin’ with what you’re doing, now’s the time to do something about it.
