dear dope chick,

welcome + welcome back!

thank you for showing up today! i really appreciate you being here.

are you ready to take action today?

what you’ll need:

for those who are new here, haven’t been here in quite a while, o have been rockin’ with me since day one —

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every episode you are challenged, encouraged, + inspired to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

that means you are taking one step today — big, small, doesn’t matter as long as it’s a step — that aligns with the lifestyle that you most desire.

focus on one thing today.

focus on one thing today, sis. one.

the tiniest details of your life make up some of your biggest moments.

all it takes is one thing you do today — one change that you make today, one idea that you put into action today that can change the course of your life.

now whether or not you decide to take action today is your choice; it is your decision, it’s your call.

it always has been + always will be.

you’re already knowingly or unknowingly choosing how you want to live your life + it’s that means you are exercising your rights to live life on your own terms.

whether you’ve known that or not, that’s what you’ve been doing, so it’s always been your choice.

what i do encourage…

i do encourage you to take some action.

i do encourage you to be intentional about what you do today.

i do encourage you to take a pause + analyze your why.

  • why are you doing what you’re doing?
  • why did you decide to do it this way?

take a moment to reflect, to consider, + to implement new practices today.

you owe it to yourself to steer your life in the direction that you’ve always wanted to go + you can do that today.

let’s get to work!

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard our previous episodes?

not yet ready do the activities presented in this episode?

we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

open up your heart from the start.

I have a challenge for you today that isn’t the easiest task to do, but it’s worthwhile + extremely rewarding.

this requires you to do some groundwork first.

i want you to take a minute + prepare for this moment —

  1. close your eyes, take some long, slow, + deep inhales + exhales.
  2. say an affirmation (pick one from the list below or create your own*):
    • i see the gift in every life experience.
    • i appreciate the differences in people.
    • i accept all realities as being valid + true.
  3. place your hands on your heart and seal your affirmation. I like to end with the saying, “it is so”.

*when using one of your own, choose one that honors seeing life from different perspectives.

to do this week:

it’s not all about you, boo boo.

so now that we’ve gotten our hearts + minds ready for today’s action, let’s get into it!

today’s action is to consider a different perspective.

this doesn’t mean you have to agree with this different perspective.

it also doesn’t mean you have to adopt it to your lifestyle.

consideration is hearing, acknowledging + accepting that your way isn’t the only way.

so hear that, acknowledge that, + accept that we all have our own ways.

just as you have you own way, others have their own ways + it is okay to be different.

so what does it look like + what does it take to consider different perspectives?

here are some ways you can step outside of yourself + start this practice today:

  1. extend compassion to yourself + others when you find our ideas differ
  2. consider how vast + broad life is + that there’s no one way to live it
  3. entertain the idea of having more than one feeling about someone or a situation; that it’s more than okay to feel more than one way
  4. honor the parts of yourself that feel conflicted when listening to others.
    • we may not always agree with others, yet it’s okay to honor the feelings that come up when listening to them.
      • wow, they are really onto something
      • hmmm… i’m not sure i agree with that stance…
  5. honor the parts of yourself that feel conflicted when you want to do something outside of your norm.
    • you are no obligated to stay the same
    • with new information you develop new skills, new understanding, + new perspectives.
    • it’s okay to venture our from what you’ve always known + question/challenge those beliefs that you’ve stood tall on because those things can change.
  6. express gratitude when others share how they feel about a certain situation —
    • a simple “thank you for sharing!” is really all it takes to acknowledge their contributions to the conversation + ultimately, your expansion because they are contributing to your growth.

over the course of the week, continue to check yourself, biases + judgements included, + get curious.

encourage + engage in heartfelt conversations.

show genuine interest in what others have to say; in their perspectives.

give yourself space to process all this new information, too.

hearing something that challenges what you’re very headstrong about + possibly adopting a new perspective is a lot to consider.

feel free to take a step back + say “i need some time to process this“.

it’s not them, it’s you.

release the notion that by sharing lived experiences + perspectives, that someone is wanting to change your mind about life.

they don’t possess that power.

no one is responsible for changing your mind but you.

are you open to different perspectives? ask yourself that.

if so, there is a chance that your mindset will shift + that’s okay if it does.

additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!

for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.

continue reciting your affirmations this week.

check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

my final thoughts:

listening to others takes extreme courage + some real bravery .

why?

because you are not afraid to challenge your current beliefs + hear from others point of views.

what if you agree with what they are saying? does that mean you were wrong all along?

dismiss that way of thinking.

focus less on whether what we think, say, + do are right or wrong + instead, focus on what is.

we all have lived very different lives.

sometimes, we’ve been in the exact same situation + have had a completely different experience.

it is not alarming that we not will agree 100% of the time.

what we can all agree on is collectively, we want to be seen + heard.

see yourself today for who you are.

your lived experiences have shaped + molded your attitude, beliefs, + morals as you know them today.

dare to see others as a true reflection.

we are not that different when it comes to the fundamentals of who we are.

so see me as i see you + see yourself as you see me.

give grace, offer understanding, + remember we are all constantly living + learning.

we are in a perpetual state of learning, of living, of growth.

life can change for you.

accept that the answers you have right now may not align with the truths you uncover today + it’s okay to acknowledge that difference + even change your mind about it all.

allow yourself to grow, sis.

give yourself space to grow into the dopest version of yourself.

thank you for seeing this podcast as a vehicle to expand your perspective.

i wanna thank you for showing up today + most importantly, thank you for being you.

i’ll see you on the next episode. 👋🏾

be you, be dope!
