the truth about algebra

dear dope chick:

school has impressed upon us that learning can be boring; a mundane chore that we do out of necessity + oftentimes with displeasure.

when it’s a subject we take no real interest in, we take on the attitude of “i’m here so i don’t get fined“, learn what we’ve gotta know, + we get the hell on to what we wanna do.

learning wasn’t designed to be that way.

our institutionalized way of learning is a product of what others have, over the years, felt we needed to know for their benefit.

flip the script, fam.

instead of viewing learning these various areas of interests as unnecessary or “when are we gonna ever use this?”, take it in stride.

whatever knowledge you’ve acquired along the way, you can use it for your elevation.

yes, algebra matters.

yes, trigonometry + geometry matters.

yes, learning how to sew a button or how to document your expenses matters.

yes, writing in MLA format matters.

yes, history matters.

dig deeper.

see beyond the surface value.

use the truths you uncover during the learning process to open your mind to new depths, no ideas to uncover.

algebra teaches you more than math — it shows you how to solve complex problems.

writing within the MLA boundaries teaches you how to fully express yourself even when you have guidelines to follow.

sewing a button + documenting your expenses is a life skill that can really elevate your life experience.

learning can be as exciting or as boring as you make it.

you can continue to view it as a chore. you can also switch up your attitude + see that there’s space to learn + apply what you’ve learned in every opportunity, in every moment of your life.

all in all, the information is there at your disposal.

what you want to do with it is up to you.

be you, be dope!
