dear dope chick:
how many times have you ran wild with an assumption,
or used it as an excuse to not do something?
- “they look like they don’t want to talk to me/have an attitude, so i didn’t speak”
- “it looked too hard, so i didn’t even attempt it”
- “the last time they said no, so i assume it’s the same answer this time”
- “it’s never worked out for me, i suppose this time won’t be any different”
too many times to count. 🤦🏾♀️
so why not simply ask for clarity, fam?
asking takes the same amount of energy as assuming, so why not ask + get the clarity that we need?
- how do you know they won’t speak?
- how do you know it’s hard?
- even if they haven’t changed their minds, is that the only way to get what you’re seeking?
- a lot of things unfold with time, have you done ___ again since the first attempt? what did you do that this past time that was different than before? wanna give it another go?
like you, people change their minds all the time.
every moment, new possibilities are realized + in every breath, new opportunities arise.
what once was may no longer be.
we won’t know anything for sure unless we investigate.
so today, challenge yourself to dig deeper.
don’t worry about whether or not it’s a “dumb” question,
don’t attempt to guess the person’s response before they say it,
don’t even give the voice in your head that’s saying “you can’t do this” the satisfaction any energy —
ask all the questions + learn all the things!
on the other side of every assumption is an opportunity to get to know something or someone on a more intimate level
(yes, that includes getting to know you more than you currently do).
peel back the layers + watch the the mystery unfold.
make what you don’t know yet know a thing of the past.
no more using assumptions as excuses or to justify your perceived shortcomings.
go far + dig deeper by asking questions + taking meaningful action.
be you, be dope!
