dear dope chick,

welcome + welcome back!

how are you feelin’?

are you ready to take some action today, to take one small step today toward living the life you most desire?

what you’ll need:

if you are new here, this is a need to know:

dear dope chick™ is an action based podcast so that means that every episode you are challenged, encouraged, + inspired to take one step that aligns with living life on your own terms.

you’ve been about this life!

believe it or not, you’ve been living life on your own terms for years! maybe you haven’t noticed (that’s something we want to bring into awareness today), but every decision you’ve made in your life has led you to this moment + has made you into who you are today.

whether you have been actively involved or not, your past decisions are why you are today.

so why not take advantage of that today?

why not say: i’m gonna stop sitting on the sidelines + waiting for people to take action for me? i’m going to do that for me today!

ultimately, it’s up to you!

don’t wanna take any action to you? that is cool!

there are no ultimatums here. you are free to do listen to this podcast + do absolutely nothing. that is your right, your choice, + your freedom.

choosing what you’d like to do in life is the whole premise of this podcast.

who am ME to judge? 😆

the beauty of living life on your own terms is that you don’t have to do shit you don’t want to do!

blow your own damn mind.

however, i am encouraging you to do a li’l somethin’ somethin’ today!

say you ready, fam!

when you are ready to change your life for yourself + do this for you, we’re here.

so, grab a notebook or journal that is dedicated to this podcast so that you can participate in the activities and exercises discussed; to see how much you have grown over the course of your life.

have you heard last week’s episode?

not ready do the activities in this episode? we have others that may interest you so if you aren’t familiar or haven’t heard our previous episodes, take a listen so that you can make an informed choice today.

you can listen to them here.

new me, who dis?

have you ever noticed how you may go to bed one way and wake up feeling a totally new person? you wake up + you feel different.

then, there are other times when you go back to bed again + realize who you woke up as that morning is a complete 180 to who is hitting those sheets!

do you ever think about how much you have changed over a course of the day? hours? minutes?

you change your mind + you’re completely different — you can have a new outlook, new purpose, new mindset almost immediately!

now think about the times when your mood has shifted from one moment to the next —

you’re angry one minute, confused the next.

you’re kiki’n with your folks one minute, the next you may be crying over spilled milk (literally — shout out to anyone who has cried that liquid gold — i see you + i am you).

throughout your lifetime, you will experience millions of different versions of you.

are you saying me, P? different versions of me, the listener/reader?

yes, absolutely you. 100% talkin’ to you!

you’ve already been a million different versions of yourself.

every second you’re changing + there are more than a million seconds in a year, fam.

you’ll be a student studying for a certification or a home cook or even bodybuilder — all in the same day!

the key to living life on your own terms is to accept yourself at every stage of your life + not long for the old you.

grieving: a superpower.

we, as a collective, seem to have a hard time grieving our past selves + accepting who we are now.

two minds can’t occupy the same space.

we have to sever ties with one mindset in order for the other to truly thrive.

the inability to let go is not conducive with change.

it doesn’t support the changes we are making in our lives; of being someone different who sees life through a different lens with new focus, drive, + energy.

why not? that version was so dope, right?

there’s no denying that you have been dope all of your life. as much as you dote over that version of yourself, who you were then doesn’t matter in this moment.

they’ve already lived + experienced life.

so the question is not how dope you used to be, it’s “who are you now + how will you live today?”

it’s not fair to compare!

we love to talk about how much we’ve changed + how much of a glow up we’ve experienced.

not knocking any of your work — it is to be celebrated by you for sure!

the suffering lies in staying there in that moment instead of moving forward to the next.

it’s not that we won’t suffer in life (everyone suffers), but why put yourself through the torture of comparing yourself to someone who doesn’t even exist anymore? it’s not fair to compare!

we take ourselves through unnecessary pain, grief, + disappointment when we compare ourselves to past versions of ourselves just as much as when we do this with other people.

different strokes for different folks

the past versions of yourself are different people. the person you were 30 minutes ago doesn’t compare to who you are now.

you aren’t in high school anymore. college either. if you’re married, you aren’t single anymore. if you have kids, you aren’t childless anymore.

we are no longer who we once were.

we gotta catch up + bring ourselves up to speed on this current version + the responsibilities being this new version of ourselves entails.

we are our ancestors… well, kinda sorta.

for example, my ancestors live in me, i am here because of them.

but there’s one thing for sure: i am not my ancestors (this isn’t to be taken in a derogatory way. this is simply stating facts).

we occupy the same body (my cells are literal copies of their own), but i don’t have to have the same mindsets that they had.

i can understand their “why”, learn from them, + grow from them.

it’s the same concept with all of the past versions of yourself: you can understand who you were then, learn from who you were then, + grow from who you were then.

so why the comparison of past you to now you?

you are who you are, one of one in a part of something much larger than what you can fathom.

you’re one in a million — literally.

there’s no one else on this earth walking who you can do what you do, that is who you are + adds the same flavor to whatever it is you touch.

you have had so many different versions of you as a person.

what you did in the past, doesn’t compare to what you can do today, will never compare to what you will do in the future.

we have to be here right now to focus on what we can contribute to our lives in this moment.

the time is now.

staying in the past doesn’t help us grow, learn or move forward.

staying in the future, always “becoming”, holds too much anticipation + suffering.

it makes us think way too much about something that has yet to happen — we have no idea what will happen!

being right here, right now allows us to experience joy, happiness, + fulfillment because this moment is the only time we’ll be able to fulfill what needs to be done.

it takes your intentional action + focused energy to get what needs to be done, done.

tomorrow isn’t promised.

i don’t know who will be around tomorrow — will you be around tomorrow?

none of us can confidently answer that question as death is a sure part of our lives.

so, use this time + breath today to get what needs to be done, done + to enjoy this version of you.

this moment is fleeting. you’ll never experience today’s activities like this again.

approach it with all the gratitude it deserves because it is something that you will never get back.

live up to your own hype!

the older version of you, though dope AF, ain’t got shit on this version of you.

hype yourself up in this moment + know that you are the best version of yourself today, right now.

don’t feel like that statement is true for you?

good thing you hold the power to do something about it! change it, fam.

to do this week:

give thanks for who you are today.

today’s action is to give thanks for who you are today.

be genuine about it + notice how dope this version of you is. write down 5 qualities + characteristics of your dopeness.

if necessary, take the time to grieve who you once were. we don’t want to waste our precious time wishing + hoping we are someone else.

work on letting go of your past. the only way we can truly enjoy this moment is to let go.

over the course of the week + next 21 days, notice the many versions of you you’ve become.

daily, take note of who you are in the moment of journaling.

  • how do you feel right now?
  • what emotions did you experience today?
  • what new information have you learned about yourself today?
  • what mistakes did you make today + what did you learn from them?
  • what are you grateful for today?
  • what new course of action did you take today?
  • how attached to this version of you are you?

everyone talks about who they are becoming, but do you like who you are now?

additionally, keep reciting those affirmations!

for 21 days straight we are reciting previously written affirmations.

continue reciting your affirmations this week.

check out the previous episode if you have not to get a jumpstart on this action step.

affirmation cards are here!

dear dope chick™ has affirmation + encouragement cards readily available on deardopechick.com. head on over + purchase a deck to have those cards on deck while you journey!

reinvent yourself constantly + unapologetically

you are constantly in reinvention because you are constantly changing.

you change your thoughts.

you change your beliefs.

you change your mindset.

hell, you change your physical appearance.

shieeeeet — i changed my hair + you can’t tell me i’m not a new person 🤣 + i’m okay with that!

if you are having a tough time letting go of who you once were, ask yourself:

  • are you okay with being someone new?
  • are you afraid of change?
  • are you afraid of how dope you have become?
  • why do you want to keep holding onto your past?
  • is there something that you’re looking for there that you don’t have now?

be real with yourself about yourself! allow yourself to be brand new. give yourself permission to change — without explanation + without guilt.

reach back out to that past version of yourself

recently, i posted on dear dope chick’s instagram the following quote:

instead of constantly revisiting the past, invite your past to experience your now. show it that no matter what happened then, your full attention is on living today.

whatever happened then, happened then.

let’s be present today + relish in the fact that we are changing lives today!

we are experiencing the fullness of life + life would not be the same without any of us here.

life is greater because you are right here, right now!

[/mepr-show]

i appreciate you taking the time to read + listen!

thank you for showing up today.

you’re doing yourself a solid by being here + i appreciate your presence!

again, thank you for showing up for yourself + most importantly, thank you for being you.

i’ll see you on the next episode. 👋🏾

be you, be dope!
