even when it doesn’t seem appropriate,
even when you + others around you are having a hard time with your feelings + emotions,
it’s okay to experience joy.
joy is what sustains you,
comforts you,
facilitates peace + cultivates love within you.
joy is what new life is made of,
it’s where you fill your cup,
+ it’s what keeps your wheels turning + your spirit light.
yes, there is joy in dark places.
there is joy in depression, anxiety, at funerals, in the ER, at roadside accidents, + in disappointing news.
sometimes it finds you in a soft kiss on the cheek,
or a light caress on the arm,
or a common saying or joke of a loved one,
or even as gratitude that you’re still here.
it may only appear for a split second in that moment.
yet there is no limit to joy how much or long as it lasts + comfortingly, it has been known to stick for days, weeks, years at a time.
today, don’t feel guilty about expressing + experiencing joy, fam.
there are so many reasons why joy appears to you in the moments it appears.
don’t allow your grief, your worry, or your discomfort to keep you from partaking in the healing that is joy.
thankfully, we know that joy, like a yawn, is contagious, so trust that when you experience it wherever you experience it, someone else is bound to experience it, too.
why hold yourself back from such a beautiful experience when your joy can benefit us all?
why not find solace in joy?
be you, be dope!
