wanting the best for yourself doesn’t mean doing this

when you know something + are a perceived expert in it, it’s hard to let seemingly unfamiliar + uninformed mess slide.

you find yourself extremely critical of what is happening because it goes against the norm + your expectations of how it typically works.

for example — watching any sports fanatic watch their favorite sport is comical at best.

they are screaming “pass the ball“, “that’s a foul“, or “get the ball” every other second of the game because well… they know ball.

well guess what, fam —

you know you.

with how much you know about yourself, it’s no wonder you talk down to yourself when you have a misstep or make a mistake,

that you’re overly critical of yourself + what you do,

+

that your expectations of you are higher than you’d care to admit.

there is nothing wrong with wanting the best from yourself, fam;

however, it becomes detrimental when we talk down to ourselves without leaving room to learn + grow without judgement.

at times, we can be our own worse enemies.

who needs enemies when we are the ones ripping a hole in our own hearts, our own dreams, + our own aspirations?

today, watch how you talk to yourself.

you may know yourself inside + out,

know what you’re capable of doing,

+

know when you can do better —

that’s all fine + dandy.

still, talking to yourself crazy isn’t making the situation better,

it isn’t giving you the motivation to keep going,

+

your harsh words + language are defeating the purpose of extending grace when it’s needed most.

being inflexible with yourself + not giving yourself room to mess up + try again is a disservice to yourself.

you owe yourself some grace, some wiggle room, + the ability to grow from a situation + you cannot grow in an environment that doesn’t give you space to do that.

check yourself before you wreck yourself.

nobody’s perfect, fam — you can make a mistake + still be one dope human.

appreciate your progress,

acknowledge your growth,

+

give yourself permission to be curious at the expense of being wrong.

be you, be dope!
