new tools in the toolbox

picture this: you have a toolbox full of shiny, new tools that can be used to build anything.

from those tools, you have your personal favorites that you reach for on a daily basis.

day to day, you build things with the tools you are most familiar with using, so what you create doesn’t really change by much too often.

occasionally, you step outside of your comfort zone + use your personal favorites in unintended ways to build funky + creative structures; however, you’re still sticking to the tools that you know + love using because if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

one day, someone asks you to build something that you haven’t explored building which, you already know, requires using tools in which you haven’t used.

it’s true — you have a toolbox full of shiny new tools, yet you aren’t familiar with them + quickly realize that what they are asking you to do is out of your scope… or so you think.

nevertheless, you accept that challenge + start building with the tools you know how to use.

but alas — after many hours of tinkering, nothing comes from using the tools you’ve been using + you’ve exhausted all possibilities of using them in ways unknown + unseen.

after all, these tools are most familiar to you, you know them through + through, + they haven’t failed you yet… until now.

at the end of the day, there is nothing to show for the build ask + you feel defeated, incapable, + disappointed in yourself for even attempting to create something new to you.

today, encourage yourself to reach for the shiny new tools in your toolbox + use them.

i know, i know… you don’t know how to use them, right?

you’ve never picked up some of these tools a day in your life + all of it is so unfamiliar —

what if you use them incorrectly?

what if you break them while using them?

what if you don’t build what is asked + you fail again?

well, what if you when you’re using them you discover the ways they are most effective + in turn, build something spectacular?

at this point, it doesn’t matter what you think you can + cannot do: you have the tools to build anything.

sometimes we forget what we’re capable of because we don’t remember that we are equipped with the tools to experience life in the way we see fit + it’s been that way since birth.

yet, it’s not that you don’t have the tools — it’s that you lack the skills, fam.

how does one get better?

with time. with application. with consistency.

use what you have to get what you want.

practice + get creative.

combine old + new tools you already have in your toolbox to continue creating + building dope things in your life.

you have what it takes.

reach into your toolbox + start building the life you most desire.

be you, be dope!
