do you believe you are who you say you are?
do you believe what others say about who you are?
what if today you decided to toss out your perception of yourself? to completely dismiss the person you claim you are + to simply be?
the slate is wiped clean, fam.
who you thought you were,
who they thought you were,
who you are right now...
none of that matters as much as we want to believe.
consider this your chance to start over; to start fresh.
one of my favorite ways to introduce myself is, “hi, i’m Phylicia + i’m doing my best“.
no titles.
no labels.
no expectations.
we may not be able to control the confused looks on people’s faces when we say something to this effect, nor can we make them understand the notion.
you’re always going to be one + none.
on one side of the coin, you’re a smart person.
to the person who is well versed in a topic you know nothing about, you may not be.
you can be anything you choose to be + you can also be none of that shit at the same time.
embracing the dichotomy of our existence is tricky, especially when we’re so used to labeling ourselves + using our achievements to define us.
today, see yourself as everything + nothing.
mindfully move through your day uncovering what it feels like to exist, to simply be, without any labels or expectations to live up to.
be you, be dope!

who are you without anyone or anything?
are you still you without the existence of trees? without the existence of your friends + family? without the existence of your latest hardship? explain.
