funny enough, what you believe isn’t a fair assessment about who you are.
same thing when it comes down to your overall values — they aren’t a true indicator of who you are at your core.
your beliefs and your values have more of an effect on what you do.
they influence your actions rather than your character, fam.
bear with me if you will:
we act on the premise of what we tend to believe.
when we are optimistic, our choices are more daring, open minded, + intentional.
when we are worried, our choices reflect our worries + we tend to move with more caution, with more concern, + with more hesitation.
on the flip side, we may believe that we are kindhearted because we are religious, but that doesn’t always translate in our day to day actions.
it’s not secret that some of the very ones who claim they are deeply religious are some of the meanest, misguided people. 😮💨
we may say we are communal because we value community, yet we may avoid getting close to others because it’s not in our nature to do so.
we may love the thought of community while also shying away from it, not fostering it, + not are not supportive of it based on our actions.
it’s important to denote the difference between your beliefs + values defining your character vs. defining your actions because too often we seem to think that believing this over that + valuing certain things makes us a dope person —
+ that’s simply not true.
who you are is what you do.
it’s how you show up,
it’s how you sit still,
it’s how patient you choose to be in chaotic situations,
+
it’s how you do what you say you’re gonna do even when your current feelings + mood don’t support doing it.
you’re consistent because you consistently show up + perform.
you are loving because you love freely + fully.
you are patient because you exercise patience.
you see where we’re going with this?
our lives are not defined by what we choose to value + believe about ourselves, about others, + about life.
who we are is largely based on what we choose to do.
today, put forth your best efforts + move with intention, with purpose, + with passion.
be you, be dope!
