for every task, there are a million excuses that can follow.
the reason you didn’t take out the trash the last few days was because you were tired.
the reason you didn’t send the email or text, or return that phone call is because you’re going to do it later.
the reason you didn’t cook is because you don’t have groceries on hand.
the reason you didn’t apologize is because you didn’t have the words.
there is always a reason as to why you didn’t do it or why it never gets done.
your dog is sick,
your money is funny,
your tire is flat,
you’re too weak,
you can’t keep up,
you don’t know how,
your hamster needs walking,
you don’t have the time,
no one taught you how —
the excuses can go on for days, weeks, months, + years.
if you ask me, the only thing that makes sense is to start now while the time is right + ripe. 🤷🏾♀️
today, challenge yourself to rephrase your excuses into something that you’re actively pursuing vs. something you’re actively avoiding.
instead of “i can’t do this” or “no one taught me”, say this is new to me + i am learning how to do this.
instead of “i’ll do this later” or “i don’t have the time”, say i’m doing what I can/starting now while i have some time.
instead of “it’s way too hard!” say challenges are welcomed + appreciated. solving problems is what i do!
instead of “i can’t find the words” say though words escape me in the moment, i am willing to sit + think about how this makes me feel.
you can when you’re willing to, fam.
the reframe reopens you to seizing the opportunity in front of you instead of shutting yourself off completely to what is available right now.
this is not an excuse to run yourself ragged.
say “no” + mean that shit. focus + set your intentions on what is important in your life.
view this as an opportunity to minimize your regrets + maximize your best efforts in living the life you’ve always wanted to experience.
you can’t keep putting off moving your body + expect yourself to gain strength, coordination, + flexibility.
you can’t keep avoiding people or using work as an excuse to not have a social life + then complain you don’t have friends or that you have strained relationships.
you can’t keep saying you want to live out your wildest dreams when you always have an excuse for not starting.
lay those excuses to rest today + find the courage to begin.
no matter the circumstances or situations today, remember: you can when you are willing.
be you, be dope!
