sometimes i find myself singing along with Mary J’s petition, “all i really want is to be happy…” + by the end of the song, crying out in cadence —
“this is what makes me happy!” + rattling off a list of what i’m most happy about in the moment. 😅
singing those lyrics in that way reminds me that happiness is a state of being, a fleeting feeling, + a choice.
it’s not that smile you wear or that fake ass façade you use to mask your current state of pain or dis-ease.
circumstances + situations cannot prevent you from experiencing happiness, either.
the seemingly “worse of the worse” can happen to you + you can still choose to remain happy in spite of having that experience.
happiness isn’t used to flaunt a certain lifestyle to others or to front like you’ve got your shit together right now… nah, fam.
doing all that further solidifies how far away from happiness you truly are in your life.
check in with yourself today, fam.
are you happy? if so, what are you choosing to be happy about today? if not, what can you choose to be grateful for in this moment?
today, remember happiness is a choice that originates from within + as a consequence of your choice to be content, others can then witness what happiness looks like it in real time.
you won’t have to announce it + you won’t have to convince anyone of your happiness because it will show in all that you say + do in that moment.
you may not feel happy 100% of your time here on earth + that’s okay!
how you experience life can change by the moment because feelings are fleeting + your current state of being is merely a decision away.
when you feel yourself experiencing anything other than happiness + it’s not a place you want to be, check in with yourself + take notice of where you stand in the moment.
then, you can choose to go to a place of joy, a place of peace, a place of grace + forgiveness, + of a place of love.
if you choose to go there, it’s in that place is where you’ll find happiness.
regardless of what goes on in your life, the choice of happiness is always yours to make.
be you, be dope!
