happiness is both under + overrated

happiness is by far the most overrated + underrated feeling we can feel —

overrated because we feel we must be happy all the time in order to live a full + rich life (it’s simply unrealistic, fam).

it’s underrated because when we need it most + we can feel like it’s impossible to possess in the moment, we can find ourselves looking for what’s always been.

happiness is a choice, fam.

somewhere along the way, we’ve convinced ourselves that we can’t experience happiness unless we adhere to these made up conditions we uphold in life.

these are nothing but limitations.

grief doesn’t come without happiness, without memories of love + joyful moments that spark a smile or chuckle.

overwhelm + anxiety doesn’t come without happiness, without knowing that working through challenges brings the best out of us, including joy in overcoming any + every obstacle.

worry doesn’t come without happiness, without remembering that all things are working out for us + that in this moment we can ditch the worry, knowing that all is well + we are good.

we don’t need a ton of shit to be happy; nothing outstanding has to happen to have joy in our lives, either.

we’ve convinced ourselves that happiness is in things — possessions, people, places, + promises.

instead, we must convince ourselves that happiness is readily available for us, wants to envelope us, + is always with us.

we don’t need a reason to experience happiness, fam… never have + never will.

if all you want is to be happy —

choose to be it today by allowing joy to overtake you.

be you, be dope!
