the potential that others see in you

potential is no more than a projection + a possibility.

yes, as promising as it sounds, it’s also usually only actualized by the person who sees something in you: the onlooker of your life.

we, the people who hold all the potential, have a hard time seeing the possibilities that are right in front of us.

how many times have you read a story or watched a movie where the protagonist has a difficult time believing in themselves despite being told otherwise?
it takes an epiphany + a long look in the mirror to see the true potential we hold + have the ability to harness in our lives.

today, appreciate the literal + figurative mirror in your life.

no matter what, we can’t fully see ourselves + that doesn’t mean we can’t use the information around us to better understand who we are at our core.

this is the reason we have mirrors, fam.

mirrors give us an inside + outside look at who we are.

they aren’t majorly accurate largely because the hold a reflection + not an actual depiction of who we are, yet it’s close enough to get an idea of who we are + how we may be perceived.

when you see yourself physically, it’s still a slightly distorted image of who you are.

figuratively, when someone sees you + your potential, they may see you + what you’re capable of doing, yet what they see is still slightly distorted because they have a hard time seeing beyond bits of themselves (i.e. their thoughts, their beliefs, their values, etc.), too.

so when others speak on your potential, they usually see what you’re capable of doing based on what they possibly would, could, or think they should do.

this isn’t to say they don’t see something in you, nor is it to say that what they see in you is definitely what you need to live up to being.

you do not have to live up to the potential that others see in you, fam.

you can choose to live up to what others see in you.

you can also choose to hear what they say + do what’s best for you.

it’s up to you to decide how you want to use the information you receive about you + your potential.

more importantly remember that the potential that others see isn’t your life’s course of action stamped in stone.

what they see in you is what they see.

it can be prophetic or pretend depending on how you choose to use the information that you are given.

be you, be dope!

journal prompt(s) for today:

your true potential is when possibility fits your purpose + you’re ready to passionately pursue it.

what do you have the potential of doing today that aligns with who you are at your core? what is keeping you from reaching your true potential? so, now that you know what’s keeping you from maxing out, what can you do today to circumvent that challenge?
